Baby Crib Bedding

301027 17 Baby Crib Bedding When it comes to your bundle of joy, you always spare no expenses in giving him/her all the happiness life can offer. From planning to the dcor of the room, to the baby’s wardrobe, parents are known to go that extra mile for providing the best. Expecting parents often end up shopping ceaselessly and end up with items that are not required or not really meant for daily use.

The baby crib is one of the most important purchases that are often the first on the shopping list. Apart from being sturdy and strong, baby cribs also go the designer way to please the extravagant tastes of expecting mothers. Some cribs come with a canopy, which gives it the look of a crib tent where as, some have a half top or no top at all. But along with the cribs, the baby crib bedding holds a lot of significance as well.

It is not only the baby cribs that should conform to the basic standards, the crib bedding needs to be of an equally high standard itself. This factor is often overlooked. The baby crib bedding is important for the baby’s health and safety. The baby crib bedding consists of mattress, pillowcases, pillows, bed sheets etc. You can pick these up individually or even as a set.

Some Factors You Should Consider While Choosing Your Baby’s Crib Bedding:

  • Look for 100% cotton products.
  • Know the durability, comfort factor and the washability of the brand.
  • Bed sheets should fit the baby snugly.
  • It should be stain proof.
  • Last but not the least; try to match it with the dcor of the room. It will help to maintain an appropraite color scheme.

You can find a range of patterns and shapes when it comes to baby crib bedding. Always keep your budget in mind, as the baby will ultimately outgrow it. The crib mattress forms another important feature of the baby crib bedding. The general size of the mattress is made to fit a standard crib size. This would ensure you would not have the baby wedge itself in any awkward way, between the crib and the mattress.

Crib mattresses also need to be changed constantly. This is the prime reason why parents would prefer to have bedding that is convenient as well as comfortable and easy to use. One can look out for waterproof bedding or nylon coated mattress covers. This would make it sturdy despite the numerous washes.

Consider the firmness of the mattress. This would help in providing the right amount of comfort for your baby. Look for easily washable covers. Some of them are multi-layered and even come with stain resistant covers. Press the edges of the mattress gently to test for its firmness.

When choosing the baby crib mattress, you need to go in for either a foam mattress or one that comes with an innerspring. Most expecting parents go in for foam mattresses because they are lightweight. The innerspring crib mattresses are firm and tend to retain their shape.

For the sheets, always stick to natural and breathable fabrics. Avoid fancy materials, as it may not suit your baby’s tender skin. Look for organic wool or pure cotton. Ensure it has enough vent holes for it to remain fresh at all times.

Choosing the right fabrics, colors and textures go a long way in making your baby feel comfortable and safe. Ensure you combine the baby crib item with appropriate furniture like comfy chairs, changing table, toy boxes, night lights, closets etc. Whatever you choose, keep the safety of the baby in mind. Your baby’s health and safety are in your hands, so ensure you pick the best to give him/her a happy life ahead!

Baby Quilt Patterns

Nothing could ever be more special than gifting your loved ones with a handmade baby quilt. A look at some ways to make easy baby quilt patterns.

5186 16 Baby Quilt Patterns An ideal gift for an expecting mother, or a treasure that is being handed down from generations, the baby quilt forms one of the many items mommies-to-be will receive amongst other gifts like clothes and toys. The quilt is used to cover the baby or even the crib, or it can be used inside the crib and once your baby grows too old for it, these pretty cribs can even adorn the walls for sentimental value.

Although stores stock a wide range of quilts, the best baby quilts are the ones that are handmade by your loved ones. It is not only the beauty of the quilt but the thought that counts into the making of the piece, which is what makes it most desirable. Some of the most common patterns used are ducks, letters of the alphabet, trains, planes or cartoons.

Before you choose the baby quilt pattern do ensure the following:

The purpose of the quilt- If it is meant to cover, or if it is to be used as a bed cover or simply as a wall hanging.

This will help you determine the size of the quilt. Once the size if finalized, it will be easier to finalize the pattern, as some patterns look good on a large area.

Know the occasion and choose your colors accordingly. If it goes on the wall, think about the colors of the room and co-ordinate.

Think about the material and how it will support the design. The fabric goes a long way in displaying the design.

Easy ways to baby quilt patterns:

One of the most basic patterns is the square and blocks. Here’s a look at two ways to make your own design. An easy baby quilt to make, this pattern can be made into a lap robe by using scraps of material. You can even make it larger by adding longer rows.

Method1:

Cut 6"x6" squares around 64 in total. (Try to use at least different fabrics.) Now arrange the 6" squares in rows. This should be in every other color. You should lay them in such a manner that eight should go across and eight down. You need to pick up the first row of eight. Then pin it together with a number one on it. Repeat this procedure for all the other rows. It is time to sew each row. The squares should be all sewn together but in row one. Proceed to do row two etc. Do ensure you use a 1/4" seam. Once the rows are done sew them all together. Now, press the seams towards the border. Once done, layer and quilt by hand or machine.

Cut some strips of 2 and 1/4" length of the quilt. The strips are to be used as borders. Sew the strips to quilt once you put right sides together. Now, turn the quilt over. Sew the strips on the wrong side by hand.
Your quilt is ready to be gifted!

Method 2:

Cut 7" x &" squares, 91 in total. Arrange the squares in different rows, and number them as one, two etc. Number 1 goes in the center of the quilt, followed by 2. Use different materials or scraps for the rows. Now, pick up the first row. You have to pin these all together. Use the number one row on it. Repeat the procedure for the other rows, marking rows 2, 3, etc. Each row needs to be used. The squares should be all sewed together in one row. Repeat for the other rows. For this, use a 1/4" seam. Now you have to press the seams. All the seams from row one and other odd rows have to be pressed down. The even rows should go seam up. The odd and even row placement is very important. Once the rows are pressed it is time to sew the rows together. The seams should now be pressed all over to the left and sewed. Now you can layer and quilt using your hand or machine.

For borders cut strips 2 1/4" wide and the length of the quilt on all sides. Use the right sides together of the strip and quilt. Now sew 1/4" from the edge. Use the wrong side to sew strips down by hand.

Now, all you need to do is simply gift wrap the entire quilt!

There are more innovative methods available to making some really unique baby quilts. The designs can involve fantasy, animals, and nature or even rag quilts where you don’t have to worry about having perfect seams. Browse the Internet or drop into a bookstore to get some really fascinating designs you can use to create your own masterpiece. This will be one such gift that would be cherished forever.

Snug As a Bug – Choosing the Perfect Crib Bedding

Get tips on choosing the right crib bedding for your baby. Find helpful suggestions on choosing the right design, whether or not to purchase a crib bedding set or crib separates and choosing the right material for your crib bedding. Considering how much of a babies life is spent sleeping, choosing the right crib bedding is essential!

An entire nursery can be designed around the perfect crib bedding.

You’ve got the perfect nursery pictured in your head-right down to the modern nursery furniture and stuffed animals perched on top of the dresser…but wait-not so fast! Choosing the right crib bedding is important, so consider a couple things before rushing into a decision.

  • Material & Washability: It’s essential that whatever crib bedding you choose should be soft on baby’s skin. Knit cotton, flannel and higher thread count woven cotton crib bedding are all popular options-anything made from 100% Cotton is preferred. Make sure that the bedding you purchase is machine washable. With everything else on your plate, you’re not going to want to worry about hand-washing or spot-treating.
  • Snug as a Bug in a Rug: For your baby’s safety, crib bedding must fit the crib mattress snugly. Most cribs are made to be a fairly standard size, and most crib bedding is designed to fit a wide variety of crib mattress sizes so it’s important that you choose crib bedding that’s just the right size, or you can purchase elastic straps that clip to the crib sheet under the mattress to hold the sheet in place.
  • Together or Separate: While pre-packaged crib bedding sets may seem appealing at first glance, consider all that’s included in one of these sets. Most crib bedding sets include a crib sheet, comforter, crib bumper pad, ruffle and other accessories. Organizations like the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend eliminated all extraneous bedding from the crib and question the safety of baby bumpers, so it makes sense to consider purchasing separates. Don’t worry-you can still coordinate patterns. If anything, in purchasing separates, you can mix and match colors and patterns, allowing for more creativity.
  • Complete The Look: Finally-consider overall decor. If you have stylish modern nursery furniture in mind, coordinate accordingly.

When it comes to your bedding budget, consider how long you want it to last. Toddler beds often use standard-sized crib bedding, so theoretically, a set of luxury crib bedding could last for years. If you see your family growing in the future, spending more now on nice bedding makes sense. However, if you see yourself redecorating the nursery or should you opt not to use a toddler bed, you might want to go the inexpensive route. Whatever you decide-make sure that you purchase at least three or four sets of crib bedding. You never know when you’ll need it!
